“The main idea in this painting is about interconnection between nature and structure in a megalopolis. Visually the artist was most inspired by contrast between the ambivalent role of nature in our life, and such an obvious role of buildings. There is synthesis between abstraction and figuration; each area demands a different treatment, thin gradients and rigid lines underline this intention.
This painting is from a series of works featuring an abandoned swimming pool, painted during a residency in Berlin. The artist was clearly influenced by the dramatic story of the divided Berlin and the dramatic architecture of the East side. This is reflected in portraying the displaced nostalgia of an abandoned building with the swimming pool.”
