We are thrilled to announce that artist Maria Agureeva wins this year’s Ruinart Art Patronat Grant. The grant will allow the artist to execute her new multi-dimensional project to be presented at Cosmoscow 2019. She will also get a chance to visit the House of Ruinart in the Champagne region in France, known for its close bond with the contemporary art world.
Maria is a multidisciplinary artist, working with a range of media, including photography, objects, sculpture, installation, video and performance. She participated in the IX international Andrey Tarkovsky film festival “The Mirror” (2015), nominated for the Kandinsky Prize (2013), became a finalist of Arte Laguna Prize (2018) and the winner of Arte Laguna special prize and residency (2018).

Agureeva’s complex works are concerned with the process of objectification as a result of our desire to change in order to escape social pressure, as well as to find our true appearance and genuine content. The artist reveals the inherent conflict between our natural features and artificial standards, and throughout her practice the personal and individual is inevitably faced with standardised and imposed.

For Cosmoscow 2019 Agureeva will present her new performance, “Passing”, which will include elements of video and live sound-art. During this yet another contemplative, allegoric performance, the artist will be creating and destroying art objects in real time, alluding to the notion of regeneration – both material and sublime.
«This is a rally unique opportunity to accomplish an idea that I did’t have the resources for before. The Grant provides these resources. I’m really glad that such initiatives are emerging in Moscow. This support is essential for arts.
My project is very complex in it’s execution. It comprises several media at once: it’s a performance, video, live sound landscape, which will be done by Igor Titov.”
