Agureeva’s complex works are concerned with the process of objectification as a result of our desire to change in order to escape social pressure, as well as to find our true appearance and genuine content. The artist reveals the inherent conflict between our natural features and artificial standards, and throughout her practice the personal and individual is inevitably faced with standardised and imposed.

Abode presented Agureeva’s 3d work, at Saatchi Gallery in London last October, as well as video installation at the recent London Art Fair’s Art Projects.

For Cosmoscow 2019 Agureeva will present her new performance, “Passing”, which will include elements of video and live sound-art.  During this yet another contemplative, allegoric performance, the artist will be creating and destroying art objects in real time, alluding to the notion of regeneration – both material and sublime.

Maria Agureeva:

«This is a rally unique opportunity to accomplish an idea that I did’t have the resources for before. The Grant provides these resources. I’m really glad that such initiatives are emerging in Moscow. This support is essential for arts.

My project is very complex in it’s execution. It comprises several media at once: it’s a performance, video, live sound landscape, which will be done by Igor Titov.”
